Add Feeds To Your Facebook Fan Page

The best part about being involved in multiple projects, is that I get the gratitude of learning and discovering new ideas, blogs, apps, plugins, etc… and the list can go on forever! In this article (originally posted on my other site which is moving here) I discuss how I discovered how to feed multiple feeds to a fan page. If you just need one feed added, skip through the “Google Reader” section down to the “Facebook Fan Page” section and follow the instructions inserting your feed in the notes section of your Fan Page.

In my latest collaboration, Blogger Luv, (which also has a forum for bloggers now!) I created a Fan Page so our readers can also interact there creating conversations on the wall. I wanted to be able to add the Blogger Luv feed to the page and hadn’t tried that with my own fan page(s). So, I set out on a mission (I had created fan pages for other sites, but never integrated the feed to it even though it has been on my ToDo list for weeks!), and after a couple of hours researching I figured out how to insert a single feed into the page.

This was not good enough though, I wanted to be able to stream all the feeds from all of our author’s personal sites too. I found this task to much more difficult to accomplish because by default you can only insert one feed into a Facebook page. Once I figured it out, it really wasn’t as difficult as I thought:

Google Reader:

I use Google Reader to aggregate all my RSS feeds and I filter them with folders (I really like this feature) so I can read on topics easily. The first step in adding multiple feeds to your Facebook page is to sign up for Google Reader if you haven’t already.

Next go to the “add subscription” button and add your feed links (ie: http://feeds2.feedburner.com/HotBlogTips) or whatever the url is to the feeds you want to add.

After adding all the feeds, click on the “manage subscriptions” link at the bottom left of your reader home page. There you will be able to add each subscription to a folder(s), if you don’t have folders it lets you create a new folder when you click the “add to folder” button on each subscription.

I would create a new folder and name it whatever your fan page is called on Facebook. After you have put all your feeds in this folder that you want to stream on Facebook, click on the “folders and tags” link in the navigation bar.

From here you can make the folder “public” that you are wanting to feed to facebook. After changing from private to public (click the button next to where it says “private”), click “view public page”. it will open the public version of that feed.

On the right is an “Atom RSS” link, right click and select “copy link location” (that is in Firefox browser, might be different if you use another browser, but get a copy of the link somehow).

Facebook Fan Page:

Next go to your fan page and click on the notes tab. Click on the add new note button, which will bring up the page where you add and edit notes. In the upper right is a set of small icons, one is a notepad, click that (says “notes” when you hover over it). From there you can import a feed by clicking that option and inserting the feed from the Google folder you created. That’s it, now every time you add a feed to that folder, it will stream on you facebook page.

Don’t forget to look in our sidebar and become a fan! Have you built a Fan Page yet? Leave your link in the comments so we can share some Blogger Luv!.

Update: If you haven’t made a fan page follow this link and follow the instructions, it’s really easy! http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php

I have not expanded my blog into facebook yet. I have seen a few bloggers doing it, and I might wait a while to see if it is just another method that takes away time from my actual blogging, or whether it will actually benefit my blogging.

Really good tip this one, most people use facebook and twitter as two seperate things, mostly facebook for fun, important though because a fan page can bring in new people all the time.

Top tip brother

Thanks Keith, I was wondering how to do that ever since I seen it on yours. I just learned to setup a fan page a few days ago. I’ll get right to work on the feed posts.

It looks like your more recent posts have pics with them. Do you need to add an image tagged with ‘thumbnail’ or something to get those to show? Great topic.

This sounds like a wonderful idea. I’m just curious – this is probably a stupid question, but are you saying this will allow me to include feeds from my favorite blogs – not just mine, but others into my Fanpage stream?

@Kiesha @ Highly Favored – Christian Inspiration Blog, The only stupid question is the one you never ask :-)

Yes, I fed 6 or 7 feeds into one fan page for all the authors of that blog, so every feed you put into the designated folder in your Reader will go to that page.

I have just revisited this page as the content was so useful! I only signed up to Facebook after reading Gary Vayerchuk’s book Crush It. Basically you need to develop some traffic and with over 400m folks on Facebook you need to be where your likely visitors are.

The reason I’ve come back is that I’ve found that a lot of people are adding me as a Friend rather than becoming a Fan, which is fine as my ‘personal’ page was only ever set up because I wanted a Fan Page. So the reason I’m back is to work out how to get the feeds automated again!

Thanks, awesome info!
