In this blog tip article, I am going to show you some basic keyword research tools I use to perform research for my sites. I have been looking at some paid apps to do this, and I may get Market Samarai, but for now, this is a method I have developed to do my keyword research that does well for me. I consider keyword research to be one of the most important factors to performing good SEO. The video is about 10 minutes long, which is longer than I usually like for my videos to be, but I think you will like it. Being my first screencast, I wasn’t aware that it would zoom everywhere I pointed my mouse, but it came out ok…

I also wanted to do a video about keyword research. I think a video is the best way of showing how you can do keyword research. I have to agree with Tycoon blogger here. I would also be interested in how you can set up your own video and what kind of software you need to use.

I use Camtasia Studio for mine, it is not free and I believe there are some free ones out there for Screencasting, Jing is one of them but I don’t think you can record audio on the free version.
There are huge marketing and SEO benefits to video. I have a new project launch coming out that will help with video marketing sometime in the next month hopefully.

This is very valuable! I’ve used the adsense keyword tool, but I really haven’t taken it to the level that you did in the video. Great job.
One question that I do have, and it may be a basic one…so you figure out what keywords you want to focus on, but what does that mean? Does that mean that you write most of your articles on this subject, or do you write a few killer articles on these terms and make sure to put these keywords in the title, description, keywords and body?

@Chris Roane – MontanaProgrammer.com, probably one of the biggest things would be to get links with the keyword(s) in the anchor text. There are other things you can do to help on page too, title tags, alt text for images, and yes writing about that topic.

Keyword research is the be all and end all for my business model, and although i do not focus too much on this within my own blog, it is something to be aware of as you post. This video is fantastic and you have really utilised the Adwords tool to its fullest! Love the firefox add on too, will be sure to check that out and review my own keyword research processes.
What are your thoughts on Market Samurai?
I downloaded the free version and although only the keyword tool works in this version, I find the competition results to be inconsistent and grossly incorrect in some cases and so stopped using it. I now use Keyword Research Pro, but that is not the point here. What are your thoughts on the Samurai?
I actually love MS and started using it shortly after doing this video. I use it mostly for SEO analysis and tracking serp rankings, but it makes it so much easier to have everything all in one tool.
So I use and endorse the tool, and it has helped me to move pages up serps for high traffic terms. I think a big key to MS is to make sure you are using all the advantages of it….
