This is sort of a follow up to my post yesterday on negativity reflecting your income, but this time I get more specific about the negativity. Email marketing is a very powerful tool for marketing your products, as well as affiliate products.
In the video I talk about how “some” bloggers frown on email marketing, and even went so far as to call it spam.
So, are there email marketers out there that take advantage of building a list? Of course there are. But to me, it is no different than having a site so full of flashy ads that the reader forgets why he/she even clicked over to your site and ends up leaving through the click of an ad that probably has nothing to do with why they came in the first place!
Sounds to me like some people are jealous of others that are successful, and the worst part is, they are calling out those that actually produce quality products and help thousands of people with their questions.
I can agree that some marketers use bad tactics in relation to email marketing, but that doesn’t mean everyone that builds a list is doing that.
I am currently signed up to over 20 email lists, and if the email doesn’t have anything that interests me, I trash it, if it does, I click through. To be honest with you, there is a better chance of selling me something through emails because I don’t have the time I used to have to visit everyone’s websites like I used to.
Can someone please explain the difference between using email marketing and using affiliate ads on your site?

Here’s one difference between email marketing and ads.
I vastly prefer email marketing because it’s very close and personal.
When you mess up with an email, people don’t buy and may unsubscribe. And leave nasty grams. The feedback is personal.
With ads, big difference. People click, or they don’t, and you have no emotional investment in the outcome.
I’ll stop here. I could go on. Not worth it.

I can agree with that statement Dave, but the fact that email marketing IS more personal means you need to proof read just as you would a post.

Your music is jamming. lol
This is something I’ll be setting up once I start my blog. I agree with you about the marketing of it. If I got an email that was full of ads or links I would drop off that list asap.
Thanks, I bought that track off Audio Jungle for a few bucks ( I get the rights) and I like it, not really my type of music but I hope it works well.

Of course you can pimp the contest, if I write about the contest do I have a better chance to win it?

It is one thing to receive communication from someone who you’ve opted in to hear from and quite another to receive pure spam from someone else who bought your name on a list somewhere. Some of those who are negative about email marketing must not recognize the difference. I wish I could opt out of true spam

I don’t know why but from the first day of blogging I really don’t like affiliate marketing and may be that’s why I never try my luck beyond my own method of earning. I also not a big fan of email marketing because I think it’s better to reach people via my blog. May be someday I change my thought but now I love to live with it.

Most people that dislike email marketing also object to making money online using any form of marketing.
They’d rather sing Kumbaya and try to use the law of attraction to earn money than ask for the sale.

Email marketing is about establishing a relationship with your customers and building your credibility. Affiliate ads on your website work well too. But people might not visit your website on a repetitive basis, where as if they’re on your email list and like what you have to say, you’ll have a greater chance of reaching them.
