Fed Up

It has been a long week for me, and I have a lot going on right now (which is good) but I am fed up about a few things and I will voice them here and let you take it for what it is.

You’re Not Doing It Right!

I am sick and tired of people telling other people that they are not “doing it right”. And “it” can be so many different things. It could be blogging, social media, marketing, content, whatever.

Let me be clear, I am not talking about someone giving sound advice on what has worked for them, but the ones that constantly tell everyone else that there is only one way to accomplish a goal. That is untrue, and I am sick of it. So sick of it, I have considered getting out. Seriously considering it.

I do consulting and coaching work on a regular basis, and I NEVER tell someone that “this is the only way”. I tell them “this worked for me”, or “this worked for another client”. Then we test things, sometimes they don’t work, then we test something else. Sometimes it takes several tries to get it right.

The point is, every site is different, every reader is different, and every product/industry is different. So what works for you, may not work for the next person!

There Are No Rules!

That is a true statement. Yes there are guidelines that can help you to accomplish whatever it is you are attempting to accomplish (do you even know?). But there are no real rules. And I am sick of those that try to make up the rules as they go.

There are no rules to social media! There, I said it! I am sick of people that say you have to do this, or you have to do that. It simply isn’t true. It just may be what you like.

Do I like getting those stupid auto DM’s on Twitter with links in them to long squeeze pages? Hell NO! But maybe it works for that person, so who am I to say don’t do it!And, that is only one example, but I say the rule is, if it works keep doing it, if it don’t work then try something else.

“You are not supposed to sell on Twitter”. BULLSHIT! You can use your Twitter account anyway you see fit, as long as it doesn’t break Twitter’s TOS! Do I think it is a good idea to do nothing but self promote? Of course not. But if that works for you, and you are comfortable with it, why should I try to tell you any different?

“You have to write everyday”, or “write only 500-750 word articles”. BULLSHIT! I know successful bloggers that only write once or twice a week and there articles are 1500-2000 words! I also know bloggers that only write 150-200 words, and they are succeeding! I also know bloggers that write 2x a day, even after everyone told them it was too much. “They” were wrong again!

I occasionally send out paid Tweets on my account, “they” told me that I would “alienate” my followers. “They” were wrong AGAIN! I am steadily GAINING followers on all my Twitter accounts.

I could go on, and on, and on. I think you get my point.

Who Are “They”?

They are usually people that think they know everything, but can’t seem to gain their own success, following their own RULES! “They” are usually the ones that are pessimists, and not optimists. “They” are usually wrong.

I started doing this 2yrs ago, and the only rules I followed, were the ones I made up myself! I did take advice from trusted friends, but that didn’t always work either.

Who Am I?

I am just a guy, who used to be passionate about blogging. I am losing that passion now that I have entered the “blogging” niche.

Anyone want to take this site off my hands? That is how I have been thinking the last couple of weeks. I have even discussed it briefly with a few people. Why? Because I am “FED UP”. I have other projects going on, that I have discussed here, and I don’t “need” this site. But I do consider it my baby. Would I sell it? Maybe I would if the right offer came, maybe I just need to find some writers that have that same passion I once had for this niche.

I don’t know, any ideas?

    Hang in there bro.

I typed out a bunch of encouraging garbage, but it sounded fake so I deleted it. Bottom line, I want you to stick around because I enjoy your blog.

  4. I hope you don't sell the site because I think you know A LOT. After all, who else can tell your story?

Can you just pretend you're talking to me (meaning your target audience) like we were sitting in a fishing boat? I mean, really, who gives a rat's behind about all those loud voices on the shoreline? Half of them forgot their poles and the other half forgot their bait. Talk to the people who want to hear you, and the voices on shore will fade.

My blogging philosophy is to stick with the people who stir my passion and ignore the ones who make my blood boil.

    But that's a guideline, not a rule :)

Hang in there, Keith. You do good work.

    “and I don’t “need” this site. “

Keith, you know I'm not the kind of guy that will give out some nourishing crap. Here's an idea – stay true with your dreams. You've dedicated to much TIME, MONEY, and EFFORT to let HotBlogTips go. It's like spending your life to earn one million dollars, and BURNING it when you get it.

  6. Jean, even if I did get rid of the site, I am not going anywhere. I will still be here, just in a different way. I will still have my businesses, and my clients. But writing about blogging is getting to me…

  7. Thanks dude, I would rather you say it like you mean it.

And, I may come off as an “all business guy” but I help more people for free than I do that actually pay me. So it isn't so much about money as it is about the BS.

  8. Joe, you know me, and you know I don't give up. But I can only take so much before I break.

  9. Julius says:

I think the lesson here is to just do what you like and don't treat what “they” say as the law of the land. I agree with you that there are a hell of a lot of people out there who speak as though their words are the law. Yes we can find value in what they provide, but we need to realize that only we can determine how we would succeed.

  10. Mars Dorian says:

Hey Keith, I understand what you mean.

There really is no law on how to do it – anything goes. For every blogging method that is successful, you'll find an opposite technique that also works !

And hey, before quitting, check your “Why”.
Check your higher goal, the reason why you have this blog. A lack of passion usually comes from unclear goal, something like: Why the heck am I doing this ? If you can answer this question, with something like: To make a difference, to inspire others to find the same success that I have”
    you'll bring the fire back…

  11. [...] shares why he’s fed up so many people out there in the blogosphere saying there’s a certain way of doing things. I [...]

  12. I can understand that, Keith. Just remember you're writing for “us,”–those people who are willing to listen and learn, and not for “them.” Either way, I respect your decision and appreciate the energy you've put out there to help people.

  13. You know, that is a really true statement. And I did start this site for “you” (as well as for me). But don't you worry, I will trudge through this low just like I always have. I just need to re-evaluate my business model(s) so I can have a clear path.

  14. Thanks Mars, and you are right. I am not always even tempered, and I do know that I have helped many with this site, I have proof in emails, tweets, and clients.

    Checking the “why” now…..

  15. Absolutely Julius. My articles are here as general advice, and it may or may not work for you.

  16. Gurl says:

    Kieth,
I waited to comment because this made me unhappy to read. I enjoy hearing and reading your point of view on the topics you choose to explore, and I would really hate to see you stop blogging here since this is one of a very few topics I am truly interested in.

I hope you take the time you need to look at what's upsetting you, and figure out how to deal with it effectively in your own way while not walking away from this site. You can be, and often are, a bit of sanity in the crazy claims that seem to run rampant right now. The more people we have like you who will be honest enough to say making money from online endeavors is hard work…the better off we are.

No matter what you decide, you have my support. You've been here for me, and I will do the same for you any time. Take care of you…and take a hiatus if you need. Sometimes walking away brings new perspective.

  17. Dennis Edell says:

Duuude oh how creepy, and kinda cool. As I read this I have a draft titled, “Stop writing your opinions as fact”.

I just added this link to backlink it. ;)

  18. Great minds think alike Dennis!

  19. Spyros says:

Indeed, when we write a post we may all fall into the notion of “do it this way only”. However, you are right for sure. There is not just one way to achieve success, that is certain. And i agree :

People who think they know everything upset us, who really do :D :D:P

  20. Kiesha says:

I totally understand why and how you can get totally fed up – I'd hate to see you sell this site. Maybe you could organize a team – a group of writers who can share in the load. Sometimes I get fed up and just want to quit and say to heck with it all – but then after I get some rest, I get my second wind and I feel like I'm ready to take on the world.
Maybe a vacation – a real vacation, no blogging, no email, nada is order for you. You might be in need of some refreshing. I know I am! :)

  21. Thanks a lot Jenn, I appreciate your support and look forward to watching your site progress.

  22. I actually took 2 mini vacations this month (3 days) with no electronics and no internet on either, was very nice.

I took your advice and am building a team now… Thanks Kiesha :-)

  23. I think we all have a little “know it all” in us :-)

  24. Keep the blog if it has the potential to make enough money to make it worth your while…and only if you enjoy it.

If neither of those conditions exist…trim the fat.

  25. It certainly has potential, and actually already performs well, bu the enjoyment part is where I am unsure right now….. working on some changes to hopefully make all that better though.

  26. I have no doubt that is has potential if you have the time. I'm cutting back some myself, so I know where you are coming from.

One thing to consider is who you listen to. If people are telling you not to sell, but not buying from you, then maybe it's time to look for another opinion.

You aren't in the business of free.

  27. Excellent advice! And no, I am NOT in this for fun, I am in it for business….
