Quick And Free Screen Capture Solution – Awesome Screenshot

Review – Free Google Chrome Extension - Awesome Screenshot: Capture & Annotate

image - Awesome Screenshot Follow Me on Pinterest I’ve been using the free Google chrome browser extension Awesome Screenshot: Capture & Annotate for a while and thought I’d share it with everyone. Grabbing a quick screen shot is a breeze with Awesome Screenshot. I love being able to save an image of a screen capture without loading up one of my image editing programs such as GIMP!

Not only can you capture and save a screen shot (What you see on your screen), there are a few easy to use tools for quick editing before you save the image. It’s very easy to add notes, draw arrows, circle something or even blur out things you don’t want others to see.

Watch this short video to see Awesome Screenshot in action:

What Tools Do You Use?

Do you have an easy screen capture solution? Do you use browser extensions? I’s love to hear your comments and ideas.

  1. I will have to check out this extension, since I use chrome all the time.

I take screenshot all the time, but I always use the windows snipping tool for that.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

  2. I don’t know this extension.I use the tool capture windows coupled with an image editor which allows more things …

    • I do the same thing Jerome, whenever I need to make major edits or need to resize. If I just need a quick screen capture, Awesome Screenshot let me save one within a minute. It really depends on what I need to do to prepare the image before I use it. It’s really nice when I want to show something fast on one of the social networks like Twitter.

  6. Great source of information Brian!

I haven’t really tried out any of such tools, I guess I never knew about them except for good old Photoshop! But yes, that does take a long time to download the picture and then work on it there. This seems a much easier solution that I am going to try out right away. :)

Thanks so much for sharing. :)

  7. Great post. Didn’t know that there is an extension for chrome. Thanks

  8. Hey Brian,

This is such a rad tool! I’m an evangelical Google product user who is pretty much 99% Chrome all the time (except where IE is forced upon us). I hadn’t heard of this extension yet, but do use some things which are similar (excessive Evernote user here). I’m definitely going to get this installed on my browser!

Thanks for the great video and heads up!

    Have a rockin week!

  9. Thank you Brian for sharing this extension with us, It can be really useful for quickly taking screenshot to use it in blog post. I’ve been using similar extensions for couple of months now, it’s called “webpage screenshot” and it has all those options for editing picture and more.
Hope someone will find it useful like i do. And I’m hooked with all these extensions for google chrome :)

  10. Thanks for sharing such a great tool with every one. I use Chrome as my secondary browser, so this would help cut down a lot of time using other screen capture techniques. As its name goes it really is awesome.

  11. Wow, that’s a pretty good browser extension. I have never thought about how useful it could be to save a screen shot. I rarely even use Chrome but I’m going to give the Awesome Screenshot a try today, thanks.

  25. The best tool that I like is the built in snipping tools with windows and mac. Mac is the best as ctrl+SHIFT+4 launches their default snipping tool to capture any portion of a screen. In windows you have to launch the microsoft built in snip tool from the start button, but you can assign it a shortkey. I just assign it the same shortcut key as the Mac and I never have to worry about forgeting it.

  26. I use Chrome as my main browser so that’s why this post is very useful for me. I will try to make screenshots with the help of these extensions

  27. I’ve been using FastStone Image Capture for a while for screen capturing and editing, but I am also a Chrome user so this extension could really make my life easier. Thanks for the useful information, I’ve never heard about this feature before, although I had been searching for something like that for a while, when I found your blog.

I think Awesome Screenshot will help me do things faster. I usually use the Firefox browser but I’d love to use Chrome with this amazing tool. Thank you.

  31. Chrome extensions and chrome browser are the 21th century most lovable things by me. I also like that you tube chrome extension as well as.

  32. My girlfriend has a Mac type of software that does this. She loves it. You can write all over your capture and make notes etc.

Good to see Google adding all these tools to the Chrome browser. Personally I feel that Chrome is the fastest browser with a great deal of features. However I have to juggle between Mozilla and Chrome for the SEO plugins. Hope that Google add something like SEOquake in Chrome. 42. Hi Brian, I use Awesome Screenshot too. There’s another screen capture tool that I like called Lightshot that lets you capture images from YouTube videos. I tried this with Awesome Screenshot and it didn’t work, so I’ll leave a link in CommentLuv so you can take a look at a video I did about this one. Let me know what you think.

  43. Aah, that right there is the reason I just love Chrome – the endless extensions for almost everything.

This one looks damn awesome, can’t wait to give it a shot, thank you.

  44. I don’t use any tools for Google Chrome but I got the button called PRINT SCREEN. Every time, I press on it, it will automatically capture the screen. That tool is so good, I don’t have to add any additional ScreenCapture like the above.

Maybe your computer has it too. And you can definitely use it without add any additional plugins. That’s way you can save more space on your computer.

    Thank You – Ferb
