Post Structure: Podcast

I read many, many blogs everyday, in my niche and in others that are somewhat related to mine. Yesterday I was on a site that is a prominent site in my niche, and I couldn’t believe that the article had absolutely no structure to it. It almost read like a book. I am not saying that is all bad, because people do read books, but I prefer to structure my posts so they are easy on the eyes, and easier to find what you are looking for. I am not trying to say that everyone should structure their posts the same as I like to, but I am trying to give a few tips on how I structure mine to try to make them easier to read.

Podcast:

This is my first podcast, and I want to thank Jordan from NotaProBlog, and he is also involved in the Beyond Blogging project which I think is one of those stand out programs that actually is worth the money people are paying for it. Anyway, thanks to him for giving me a few tips on getting my podcast into the post. I looked into hosting the podcast on iTunes and a couple of other places, but ended up using Blubrry Plugin and it was really easy to do.

I have seen/listened to podcasts on several sites, so I am not doing anything new here, but I made my decision to add podcasting to my blog after listening to Nathan Hangen talk about it on his podcast called Choosing Between Text, Audio, and Video. Not wanting to stick with only text for my articles, I decided that trying a podcast could be fun and also offer a different form of media for my readers.

Post Structure:

In the podcast, I discuss some different ways I like to structure my articles to try to make them easier to read, and to keep the reader interested. So without going into too much detail, I will let you listen to the podcast. Please comment below (I added video comments yesterday, so if you have a Viddler account you can leave a video comment if you want, and if you don’t have a Viddler account, it is free and easy to sign up). Anyway, let me know what you think of my first podcast, I am not a public speaker, but I think you will enjoy. Add any tips you may have, or ask questions below.

Great podcast. Only problem is that the time stamp says its 17mins long when its about 10 mins long.

The the subject is a good one. You pointed out a lot of stuff I am trying to do on my blog. I find its hard to find pictures that make sense with the content I am writing about. Any suggestions?

  3. Keith, structure is really huge. It makes all the difference when you want to become highly productive.

I have about 5 loose templates and 2 very strict templates I follow for structuring my articles. These are proven to work, as long as I write within the structure, and write well.

Having these templates means one less thing to think about when writing.

  8. I like podcasts. Nice tips too. I caught your tweet too late Saturday when it said you were live, I’m not sure if that’s when you recoded this. As far as Post Structure, I really like your posts. The paragraphs and subheadings make it an easy read. I also like to end with a question or comment invitation just as you do.
