Be honest with yourself when you decide what, how and why you write in your blog or on your website or even in your marketing materials. You will want to be genuine with your audience and the only way to do that is to own it. You can try to fake it, but I don’t suggest that because it will make your life harder than necessary. It may even cause you to put up needless mental roadblocks.
Business Owners
Business ownership IS PERSONAL no matter how you slice it. So, don’t shy away from developing a style that makes you comfortable and will attract people who agree with and admire your vision. Of course, you may also attract those who adamantly disagree with your position and that is good too. What that does is provide you with other perspectives, food for thought, fodder for inspired topics and opportunities to shine as an expert in the field.
Fellow Writers
The trick for you as a content writer is to capture the personality of your client using words. This is a skill in and unto itself. Consider whether or not you are the good writer/journalist type or are more creative and have the capacity to change the tone of voice, style and content to match that of your client. As usual, I will tell you that the only way to capture the essence of the client is to really get to know them. Find out what makes them tick and how they want to present themselves to the world, throw in some marketing strategies and BINGO! You have yourself some personality (someone else’s personality actually).
Nicholas Cardot just put up a blog post today trying to inspire creativity in all of us through the use of imagery. The set of images that really seemed to represent style for me was the beautiful websites. These sites totally capture the personality of the owners in addition to the fact that they are really cool. So, as you can see taking ownership is one thing and projecting that to the world is another. If you can’t seem to get it just right, contact me and we can schedule an appointment to get that done.

Yup you are right Samantha, having a good, original and creative content is very important to keep up the readers attention on our article/blog posts
It’s not always easy, but it has to be done. Thanks!
Yes, I think style is very important – especially when it comes to blogs in popular niches.
The unfortunate fact is that there is a lot of information that can be found on many, many blogs. (Take SEO. There’s only so much you can say about on page optimization, after all!)
So, having a unique style is one effective way of making your blog stand out from the pack, and make readers keep coming back to read what you have to say.
Matt, I think the hard part for many writers is actually finding a style that is comfortable. Once that happens, the rest falls into place. Would you agree?
