SEO also known as Search engine optimization is a very important factor to be considered by any webmaster who want to get enough visitors without using Payperclick. SEO is always better than payperclick(if it is properly done of course) because you will continue to rank whether you have money or not.
The following are very important factors to consider so that your SEO efforts will not be in vain:
Keyword Research:
Keyword research is a very important SEO factor to be considered in order to make the road of your SEO efforts smooth. Keyword research is a process whereby you look for various keywords you will like to rank for(both on page and off page). It is after effective keyword research has been done that you will now move to the next factor. Some important keyword research tools are: Google adwords Keyword tool, keyworddiscovery.com/search.html, keywordindex.com
On Page Factors:
This is a very crucial factor in SEO that can give you high search engine rankings for a less competitive keyword. The on page factors involves proper optimization of the meta titles and tags. Proper optimization of the meta title involves the usage of your keyword at least once in your title e.g. “Buy honey here, best honey in town” is an example of a highly optimized website title for the keyword honey.
Also, it is very important to take note of the meta keyword and description: the meta keyword should be your desired keyword while the description should be an highly convincing word, because it is what will be shown to your visitors when they search for your keyword in the search engines. After the on page factor has been effectively done, we will then go to the nex factor.
Link Building:
This is another important factor for high Search engine rankings. Link building alone, if effectively done can take your website to the next level of search engine rankings. When building links to your website, the following are best practices:
- Anchor text: effective usage of anchor text is very critical to your search engines ranking becaues in most cases you will be ranked high for your anchor text keywords. It is also a good practice to use variation of anchor text and not just a single anchor text because this makes your link profile look natural.
- Relevancy: relevancy is also important in search engine optimization, it is always better for a political website to link to a political/government website and not an health website.
- Consistency: Consistency is also very important in link building, because it makes your link building natural i.e. if you want to start with 10 links, then continue with ten links, don’t let it be 10 links today,30 tomorrow and 5 the next day.
- Who you link to: It is also very important if you are mindful of who you are linking to because some websites have been penalized by search engines and it might cost you your rankings if you link to them. It is not so easy to detect banned links easily, but here is a nice post on doing it automatically: “detecting bad links“

The problem is that most blogs will not let you use anchor keywords for the name field on your comment Fortunately, there are a few places that do allow it. Hopefully Hot Blog Tips understands the importance of anchor text based on this post and allows this comment to use the keywords we chose in the name field. Definitely enjoyed reading this post and checked out Xpelo.

@Raleigh Fence Company, Actually, that is the exact reason for the keywordluv plugin I use. You are allowed to type yourname@Raleigh Fence Company and your name is not linked, only the keywords become the link.
I believe this is better used when getting links from other sites that write about you, of even more control can be had if you guest post for someone that allows you to link back to your site.

@Keith Bloemendaal, Lets say a blogger writes about you out of the blue; you had no idea ahead of time…what’s the etiquette on thanking them but also asking to go back in and add/change anchor text here and there?

@Dennis Edell, I would say politely asking them (with no obligation to do so) is fine, if I wrote about you (and I am sure I will eventually
) and you asked me to change a few things, I would do that as long as it didn’t look spammy or make my article difficult to read.

@Raleigh Fence Company, Keith is right about the keywordluv plugin, irregardless though, it is always best to use name@keywords…most bloggers wont mind keywords as long as there’s a name to respond too.

@Raleigh Fence Company, it is probably you are building links through blog commenting: this is good though, but it is also better to alternate your link building sources, maybe using article sites, forum contents and so on.
@Keith Bloemendaal, thanks for the informative response.

Hi Onibalusi, I’ve been learning a lot more about keyword research lately and I’m convinced it’s a topic that most of us think we know what to do but most of us fall short.

@Brian D. Hawkins, I will second that Brian! I have a systemI use that helps me because I end up with my kewords in a spreadsheet showing how many times a month they get searched and where I rank on the 3 major SE’s (if I rank LOL). That helps me to analyze my progress if I am trying to rank for something, but usually I just track progress on a monthly basis and let it happen naturally.

I hadn’t really considered the consistency aspect you speak of – I had just been building links sporadically. I learn something new every day and appreciate the tips.

@Jeff, Google does indicate that consistency in building links is a factor to them, if you get too many, too fast it looks “spammy” and you could be penalized for it.

Great site and article.

Someone on Twitter sent me a link to the article so I just had to check it out, and it’s a great rundown of the most important factors of SEO.
I think I’m finally up-to-date with my SEO over on my self-hosted wordpress blog: iSingers.info.
There is a bunch of plugins for Wordpress blogs but I think All In One SEO is the most important one and it greatly increases your blogs visibility.

Hey Keith,
I get the whole consistent link building aspect, although I think 10 links today, 30 tomorrow and 5 links the next day as described in the article is more natural then building 10 everyday. don’t you think?
Meta keyword tags are slowly becoming less and less useful IMHO.
Also, not sure if it’s just the way my browser is displaying the text here but I swear I thought the article was saying payperdick (with a d instead of a c l )
lol

@Steve@Bissell Steam Cleaner, Meta keywords are now useless, 100%, according to Google and then Yahoo…they both finally gave the word a while back.
