Social Media Soap Opera

This post was inspired by my recent observation of these silly “soap operas” that are popping up all over the social media sites (mainly on Twitter) and I wanted to remind your to keep you eye on the prize! Don’t let these petty distractions deter you from achieving your goals.

blah

I see it almost everyday on Twitter, and honestly you would think that these 30 and 40 yr old so-called “professionals” were back in grammar school. I see people try to bait others by making sarcastic comments and making general comments about this or that being “goofy” or “wrong”, don’t fall for the bait!

I see this as a virus that spreads like the plague and it will bring every one down in its path!

Get Rid Of It

One of the comments I made to win Gary V’s book Crush It over at David Risley’s site (totally stoked!) was that part of my transformation was to:

“Rid myself of worthless fakes that I was networking with”

What that means is, if you are just one of these people that are constantly bashing on people that are really trying to make and empire out of their online business venture, then I would say you are part of the worthless fakes I was talking about, and I don’t have the time for it.

Hot Blog Tips is Not A Hobby

This site is not a hobby, I am not here for pleasure. I do get plenty of satisfaction from this site, but business is business. I have goals and I have a prize in mind when I reach those goals.

The overall purpose here is to help others with their quest to build an online business. I feel like I can help those people because that is what I have been doing for the last 2 yrs, and I have gone through all the trial and error phases with building a profitable online business. Honestly, it doesn’t have to be as hard as people make it, or as hard as I made it for myself.

So, if you are one of those negative attitudes with a negative bank account, I suggest taking a close look at yourself in the mirror. Does the problem exist because someone else is selling e-books, or building a membership site, or even an e-course that actual people are getting value out of? Or does the problem exist because you don’t like the way they are doing it? If it is the latter, then the problem lies in the mirror.

Keep Your Eye On The Prize

Nothing less than total concentration will get you there. Although, sometimes even I like to have a little fun to break from the stress of daily activities.

I am not saying that you have to be all business all the time, but I like to work hard and then play hard to reward myself. Having clear goals will help you to see the path and enable you to keep your eye on the prize as it becomes closer to your reach.

Conclusion:

What are you doing to climb that mountain? Are you an action taker or a dreamer….

Stay away from the “soap operas” if you are really serious about moving forward and turning a dream into a reality.

Congrats on the prize from DR! I’m with you Keith. I really can’t be bothered wasting the energy on sites that belong to people who just want to talk about what they perceive as other people doing it wrong.

    • Thanks Mike, really looking forward to the book!

My goal is to be sitting in the Virgin Islands by the time I am 50 with no debt and a passive income (12 more years, but I will wait until my daughter graduates) and sipping drinks with umbrellas while sailing…

I am confident I will get there!

I have been blogging for over a year, and I want to start making an e-book. The problem is it seems like within my niche that is impossible.

I rack my brain all the time, and I just can’t figure out either a FREE or a less than $10 e-book for a MMORPG gaming blog.

I am currently running adsense on my blog, and the payouts are pathetic. I think I earn pennies a day.

I know I have something inside of me that can convert my readers to paying e-book buyers, but I just can’t nail down a topic that is going to do it.

It is a very frustrating experience. I know if I offer blogging tips it would be much easier it seems because everyone wants to make money blogging.

Anyone have ideas on how I convert my MMORPG blog to creating an e-book that gaming addicts would want to buy, or download for free to eventually get them to buy something later down the road?

When I look at the blogs in my Google Reader, not one of them is written by a drama queen or king. There’s so much to learn and do in building an online business that I seriously don’t know how people have time for that stuff.

I also notice that this soap opera exists in facebook and other social media sites. It’s funny how other people would find fault in what others are doing, but when we look at the former’s work, it ain’t even close to being average.

I totally agree: get rid of the useless and fake, and treasure those who give true value

Luckily having JUST gotten back to twitter and not active on any others at the moment, I haven't run into this yet…perhaps you can privately send me a list of suspicious folk to keep an eye on. lol

By the way, does this answer you question or should I reply to your comment anyway? ;)

  8. I am still working on this Disqus thing. Seems they don't make it very easy to bring all my comments back….

  9. I am a little hard headed, and it took me a few months to figure this out, but I did…

  10. Brother I think we're on the right track man I get bored of the people who all gee each other up about how 'real' they are, stop hiding behind the shield of 'real' and either make a difference or shut up.

We're gonna make it brother, loving the new phot too !

  11. Good stuff man. I'm not sure who you're talking about, but I think I know what you mean.

I have an entirely different problem, which is people that are network whores and treat people like stepping stones instead of as people.

Name dropping drives me nuts too…but that's another post.

Anyway, I get pissy, but at least I stay that way! lol

  12. Yeah, but you keep it real while you are being pissy! LOL

The people I am talking about know who they are, and they do it every day. I am not putting up with it anymore, I don't have time…

  13. So brother lets move on dude and leave the haters behind. I sometimes think the more we talk about them the more we stoke their fires. Lets ditch the excess weight

  14. This was more for my readers, not me. Hoping they will recognize the ones in their Twitter streams that are hindering progress of their online business and get rid of them.

  15. Yeah totally man good plan. Loving the new captain america look lol

I think by now Keith you know what corner I'm standing in….. MINE. Haha, I don't take sides in the silly games and rarely will you see me try to bait anyone in the blogging world or online, well I will use my blog to bait my competitors into doing silly things but that's a brick and mortar offline empire. I like your approach Keith and bottom line, let the game players play the game while you stick to the business and drive it through the wall.

  18. Kristi Hines says:

I couldn't agree more with this. It's so easy to watch what people are saying around you and not go for something simply because you feel like “oh, so and so is not going to like this and is going to talk smack about it” kind of thing. But really, you have to ignore the haters and focus on the people who do care about what you're doing. Do what is good for your supporters, don't try to fit a mold to avoid the haters! All they are is negative energy that you don't need interfering with your goals.

  19. Rob Sellen says:

    Hi keith,

I haven't seen the recent drama you mention but then I have also been going to twitter and such a lot less lately for some reason I have yet to work out lol.

Wondering if they are linked! ;)

I used to laugh at some of the stuff on twitter, been on it since 2007 and the changes that community and the way things play out has been quite an eye opener.
It is less appealing now than it was back then, for certain.

  20. I started on Twitter in 2008, and last year I changed to using my real name, but I didn't notice this childish behavior until I got into this niche, it seems people are very outspoken and unprofessional in this niche more than my past niches…

  21. I couldn't have said it better myself Kristi! Thanks for stopping by and for your support.

  22. I think that once people realize that this is a business to me and not a game, they will understand more why I do the things I do. I like to have fun, just as much as the next person. And I know I have put things out there that I regretted later, but I try to learn from it, some people never will…

Thanks again John, and one of these days we will have to get that interview in!

  23. Rob Sellen says:

    Probably right there mate.

  24. Julius says:

    Thanks for your response, Keith.

Gladly staying tuned for the next posts. :)

  25. home4ever says:

Hmmm…I don't know of any drama, either.

Great article, though- there are enough negative people out there even in our own lives.
