The Impact Of Social Media
Social media is defined as a way of communication channeled thru web and mobile technologies to promote interactive dialogue. Through this, vast changes happened with the way organizations, private individuals and communities’ communicate with each other.
Before the time computers were made it seems that time was so slow. But now that computers are everywhere time elapse without us noticing it. Was it really the reason why computers were made? I don’t think so, as far as I remember, they say that a computer is an international business machine. That’s what I used to believe too, but now my belief was changed. I’d like to say now that computers are inaernational personal machine. Through these intelligent computers seamless communication happened using various social media applications all over the web.
When I think of how it all happened so fast, the only reason I can see is social media. How do you really define social media? I am sure, all of us would have different definition of social media, and that would depend on how it works for us.
Source of News and Information
Social media plays a great role as a source of news and information. Interesting news go viral on the internet because everyone wants to share it with everybody. Controversy over something is easily spread over the internet as everyone who reads it shares it to many people. How many lost people have been found through the help of social media? I’d say, I’ve witness it more than a couple of times already.
Keeping up with Family and Friends
How many among your family members and friends are able to access the internet? Have you found at least one of your long lost friends over the internet? Family and friends’ picture are now being shared through social media. Everyone changes status on facebook from time to time depending on what he or she is doing. Do all these become known to everyone in the family and circle of friends? I believe it is, and that is irregardless where your family or friends may be.
Form of Entertainment
Nowadays, reality TV show and live contests on TV are able to involve their audiences through the use of social media. How many times have your vote been solicited by TV hosts to help them decide who should be a winner? I’d say this happens every day on TV.
Marketing and Promotion
Many companies have used Twitter, Podcast, Facebook, email and text messaging, etc to expose product they are marketing. Thru this, prospective markets are reached as long as they have access to mobile phones or web based social media application. Advertisement is done in a snap of a finger and in a less costly manner. To add more, lots of business information is also shared by many people thru social media.
Social media deeply changed how things worked and truly made a great impact to every person. What about you, how do you define social media and how it affected you?

I agree with you. Today, Social media does play an important role in our lives. For me, Social media helps me to promote my blog, meet new bloggers/friends and interact with them (that’s about it, I think). The only thing I am annoyed about is the number of social media sites, I mean how many should we take care of? I think, blogger should basically focus on social media sites that works for them – just experiment with the sites and find out what works.
