A common issue with WordPress themes is the limitation of word tags that are displayed on our blogs. Most themes by default limit your visible tags to 45 or 50 words/phrases. There is probably a simple coding edit that will adjust this setting but there is an easier way – WordPress plug-ins.
On this site I installed the WP Cumulus plugin because the word tag widget isn’t available in the theme we use. WP Cumulus adds a cool spinning effect.
I quickly surpassed 45 tags on my personal photo blog and wanted them all to display in my tag cloud on the sidebar. A quick Google search led me to WordPress Tag Limit by Money Making Websites. Ron Killian’s post refers to the Configurable Tag Cloud Plugin which was exactly what I needed. Minutes later I had every tag showing with a few extra tweaks available.

Jim is sooo special!
I do have a question while I’m here.
I have heard that Google is looking more at tags than categories. Do you think that you can have 2 may words in your tag cloud & then G will think of it as a list of spam words?
I honestly don’t know at this point, just askin.
I don’t know Sheryl, but it’s a great question. I never considered Google viewing tags as spam words. Key words, sure, but too many as spam words? It’s definitely something to think about.
At first guess I would think as long as they were relevant and not used multiple times tags should be safe. It’s hard to read G’s point of view on things like that so I’m just guessing.
Perhaps it’s like the old meta tag key words. If a site had too many they would only count them up to a limit and ignore the rest as long as they were relevant. Now they don’t consider any of them.
